CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 from Ridge Road, in Minooka, to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenoxa stage change is scheduled to take place in the westbound lanes beginning, weather permitting, Wednesday, Aug. 20.

To facilitate the stage change, starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, lane closures will take place on westbound I-80, between Interstate 55 and Ridge Road. At least one westbound lane will remain open to traffic. The lanes that were closed overnight will reopen by 6 a.m. Thursday, when the new traffic pattern will be in place.

In the new configuration, the westbound lanes will be moved over to the right onto the newly constructed concrete pavement between I-55 and Ridge Road. The left shoulder will remain closed as work on the median barrier wall continues, anticipated to be completed later this fall.

As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
